This fund was established in memory of Joan Lovering, one of the founders in 1976 of Equality Health Center (then NH Women’s Health Services). Joan served as the Health Center’s first administrator, and was a distinguished and steadfast advocate for women’s health, reproductive rights and feminist philosophy throughout her life, until her death in 2002. Contributions to the Joan Fund are used to help women cover the cost of abortion at EHC.
This fund is a legacy of beloved nurse practitioner and midwife Laura Knowles, who died tragically at age 57 of stomach cancer in 2008. Laura spent her entire career caring for women, including the last several years of her life at CFHC, providing gynecological services and medication abortion with compassion and respect. Her bequest helps women in need to cover the cost of their gyn care, including Pap tests, breast exams, STI testing and treatment, and other services.
